Position:  Wine Server
Status:  On Call, At-Will Employment
Reports to:  Event Manager

Job overview: 

Must be 18 years or older to pour wine (may not open bottles). Wine Servers are responsible for providing information on wine characteristics, wine production and types of wine.  They prepare and serve wine using wine service techniques and maintain wine inventory throughout the event with guidance from Bartender and Barback.

Responsibilities and Duties
(included but not limited to the following):

  • Upon arrival, report to Event Manager (EM) to review Banquet Event Order (BEO) and schematic, then check in with Bartender.
  • Designate service areas on the floor to make sure all tables are served in an appropriate order.
  • Identify correct wines for service and assure they are ready at service time.
  • Know wine varietal, winery and vintage you are serving and the sequence of wine service, open as needed.
  • Tray pass beverages and provided tableside wine service to guests.  (See Policies and Procedures)
  • Assist with clearing glassware during cocktail hour and on dining tables as needed.
  • While waitstaff is actively serving dinner, remain on the floor to provide guests with wine, water, bread, butter, salt and pepper, etc.
  • Assist waitstaff with cleanup, break-down and room reset as instructed by EM.


This is an on-call position, with day and evening shifts available seven days a week.


  • A primary responsibility of your job is to make our guests and clients feel special.
  • Accept or reject job requests from Staffmate in a timely manner.
  • Arrive on time in appropriate work attire and prepared with necessary materials for scheduled shift. (See Policy and Procedures)
  • Behave like you are on stage and your “performance” is being watched by an audience.

  • Education level:  High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience:  Proven ability to provide a fine dining experience to guests.
  • Specific Skills:  Problem-solving, Communication, Collaboration and Time Management
  • Personal Character:  Respectful, Reliable, Organized, Personable, Enthusiastic and able to Multitask
  • Certification:  Current Food Handler’s Permit (ServeSafe Certificate)
  • Physical abilities:  Physically energetic and able to stay on your feet for extended periods. Walk on uneven surfaces.  Work in outdoor spaces with exposure to extreme weather conditions.  Able to lift 50 pounds (a case of wine).
